Contributor Day at WordCamp Asia 2027 will take place on 9 April 2027 in Penang, Malaysia.
This year, we are looking for facilitators who can help people move from “I would like to contribute” to “I know how to get started.”
Contributor Day workshops are practical, hands-on sessions designed to remove some of the barriers people face when they first approach WordPress contribution: unfamiliar tools, unclear workflows, technical setup, or simply not knowing what kind of contribution they can make.
If you have experience that could help someone take their first meaningful steps as a WordPress contributor, we would like to hear from you.
Applications are open from 29 September until 24 November 2026.
Planned Workshop Topics
We are currently planning the following workshops for Contributor Day:
- Beginner WordPress Workshop
- Building a Block Theme from Scratch
- WordPress Core Development Setup Workshop
- WordPress and AI workflow
Workshops are a team effort
Hands-on workshops work best when participants can get individual help when they encounter a problem.
For each selected workshop, we plan to create a facilitation team consisting of:
- 1 Lead Facilitator, responsible for the overall session;
- 2 Co-Facilitators, helping participants keep up, troubleshoot problems, and complete the practical exercises.
You can apply to a particular workshop or any. If your application is selected, we can work together to identify the ideal workshop for you.
Feedback from previous workshops showed how valuable this support can be: facilitators reported that setup conflicts and individual technical problems needed hands-on troubleshooting, while a lead plus two co-facilitators worked particularly well for keeping a room moving together.
Workshop format
The workshops will take place during Contributor Day on 9 April 2027.
We are currently planning each workshop for approximately 50 participants so that facilitators can provide meaningful hands-on support.
Selected facilitators will receive more detailed information about timing, room setup, AV, preparation, and Contributor Day logistics later.
We will also ask selected facilitator teams to coordinate their session in advance, including the roles of the Lead and Co-Facilitators.
Previous workshop feedback showed that preparation matters: complete materials allowed participants to continue learning afterward, while technical setup conflicts were much easier to solve when additional facilitators were available.
What happens after you apply?
After the call closes on 24 November 2026, the Contributor Day team will review the proposals.
Selected facilitators will be contacted to refine the workshop plan, confirm the facilitation team, prepare participant requirements and materials, and coordinate logistics before WordCamp Asia.
