Call for Organisers [closed]

After the postponement of the February 2020 and January 2021 plans, the WordCamp Asia organising team is now planning the first flagship in-person WordCamp Asia for February 2023.

  • Tentative Date: February 17-19, 2023
  • Venue: TRUE ICON HALL in Bangkok, Thailand
  • Event Format: 1 Contributor Day (first day) and 2 conference days

Organiser criteria

The WordCamp Asia organising team will consist of about 15 local (Thai) members and 30-35 global members from all over Asia.

All members must meet these criteria:

  • Be available during WordCamp Asia*
  • Residency in Asia or active involvement in Asian WordPress community
  • Can commit at least 3 hours per week for planning (this may increase right before the event).
  • Able to attend weekly / bi-weekly team meetings as needed
  • Have diversity as a core belief

In addition, global members must:

  • Have experience with organising a WordCamp/meetup or a similar event

* Travelling to Thailand during the event is NOT required, but please let us know if you can’t or prefer not to attend the event in person. Some examples of remote organiser responsibilities include live video streaming support and online attendee correspondence before and during the event.

Opening roles

We are looking for 1-4 members for each of the following teams with described expertise:

  • Audio Visual (A/V) Team: Experience in managing event photography, live-streaming, captioning, interpretation, and video production.
  • Attendee Experience (AX) Team: Familiarity with planning an inclusive & welcoming event and assisting those with special needs.
  • Communications Team: Writing external communication in English and handling social media/public relations.
  • Contributor Day Team: Experience in organising open-source contributor events and/or past involvement in contributing to Make WordPress teams.
  • Design Team: Experience in Figma or Illustrator. Social graphics or event collateral design experience is a plus.
  • Speakers Team: Well-organised and good at communicating with parties outside the team. Familiarity with the current WordPress audience interests and the Diversity Speaker Training is a big plus.
  • Volunteer Wrangling Team: Detail-oriented and great at simulating different scenarios.
  • Website Team: Comfortable working with CSS and GitHub. Familiarity with wordcamp.org site tools is a plus.

What to Expect

Because the main venue will be the same place as originally planned, we will be able to reuse some work from 2020.

We will comply with any COVID-19 guidelines provided by the local government and WordPress Community Team (such as this one) to ensure the safety of the attendees.

Timeline

This call will be open until April 30, 2022, at 23:59 Bangkok Time (UTC+7). We intend to notify the result by mid-May.
