Community Booth at WordCamp Asia 2023

The Community Booth at WordCamp Asia 2023 is the perfect place for anyone who wants to become more involved with the WordPress community. It will be located between Hall 1 and the Mingle Area and staffed by experienced members of the WordPress community who are ready and willing to answer your questions. They will be happy to help you find the information you need about contributing to the various Make WordPress teams.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced WordPress user, the Community Booth is the place where you can learn about the different volunteer opportunities available, including the Five for the Future program. This program encourages individuals and companies to contribute at least 5% of their work time to WordPress. By participating, you can help shape the future of WordPress and ensure that it continues to be the leading open-source content management system in the world.

The Five for the Future program is just one of the many ways you can get involved with WordPress. There are also opportunities to contribute to the code, design, documentation, support, and other aspects of the project. Whatever your skills and interests are, there is a way for you to contribute to WordPress and make a positive impact on the community.

So, if you’re attending WordCamp Asia 2023, be sure to visit the Community Booth and learn more about the different ways you can get involved with WordPress. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other WordPress enthusiasts and learn more about the project from experienced community members. We hope to see you there!

After-Party at Lhong 1919: Share Your Culture

Join us on 19 February 2023 between 19:00 and 23:00 to celebrate the closing of the first flagship WordCamp in Asia. Our after-party will be at Lhong 1919, an amazing outdoor event space on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River.

The theme of this year’s after-party is “share your culture,” and we’re asking attendees to wear something that signifies their country or culture. Whether it’s a traditional dress, the colour of the national flag, or a cultural symbol, we want everyone to help us learn more about each other and how diverse the community is.

Attendees must bring their WordCamp Asia 2023 badges. No additional RSVP is required as long as you have a session day ticket, but you will not be permitted without your badge from the event registration desk.

After-Party Information

Date: Sunday, 19 February 2023

Time: 19:00 – 23:00 (door opens at 18:30)

Venue: Lhong 1919 (Wikipedia)

Address: 248 Chiang Mai Rd, Khlong San, Bangkok (Google Map)

Theme: Share your culture: wear something from your country or culture

Food & Drinks: We will have various local finger food stalls. Your session day ticket includes coupons (food/beer/soft drink/water). Additional drinks will be available for purchase with cash (Thai Bhat). If you need cash, you can find several ATMs and a currency exchange service in the ICONSIAM building.

Just a friendly reminder, we’ll only be serving finger food. It’s a good idea to grab something to eat before you head over to the after-party.

Entertainment: We’ll have a local live band iHearBand and DJ Nana. You can choose to dance or just hang out with your new friends with a drink. And for those who want to remember the night, don’t forget to capture the memories at our photo spot.

Access: Our recommended routes to access the after-party venue are these:

  • Taxi from BTS SkyTrain – Krung Thonburi station (7 minutes)
  • Taxi from ICONSIAM (5 minutes)

Please note it may take longer depending on the traffic. The walking distance from ICONSIAM is about 15 minutes. As the street lighting may be poor on some of the roads, we recommend that you take transport back to your hotel even at short distances.

Internet: There will not be public internet for the attendees. Please install an international SIM card for your phone if you need to be online during the after-party.

Lhong 1919 House Rules

  1. Pets are not allowed, except service dogs, and should be prevented from entering the shrine area. If you will bring a service dog with you, please kindly inform us in advance as the number of dogs allowed in the area is also limited.
  2. Smoking is not allowed in the location because the structure of the venue is made of wood. Smoking is only allowed in the parking area.

Job Board: Connecting Attendees & Companies

At WordCamp Asia 2023, we will be setting up a physical job board area open to all attendees in the Mingle Area. This job board will consist of whiteboards where companies and job seekers can post current job openings and contact information.

Ask Matt Anything (AMA) at and before WordCamp Asia

We are thrilled to announce Matt Mullenweg, co-founder of WordPress, as WordCamp Asia 2023’s keynote speaker. Apart from leading the open-source platform that powers 43% of the web, Matt Mullenweg is also the founder & CEO of Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, and Tumblr. Matt has been recognized for his leadership and success by media giants like Forbes, Bloomberg Businessweek, Inc Magazine, TechCrunch, Fortune, Fast Company, Wired, University Philosophical Society, and Vanity Fair to name a few.

Originally from Houston, Texas, Matt attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where he studied jazz saxophone. His love for jazz is expressed in the naming of every major WordPress release which honours a notable jazz artist. In his spare time, Matt is an avid photographer, hence his Twitter handle @photomatt. The keynote session — Ask Matt Anything (AMA) —  is organized as a Q&A with Nirav Mehta playing the role of emcee and host. Nirav is a WordPress community veteran from India and the founder of successful WordPress businesses.

Ask Matt Anything (AMA) will take place on 19 February 2023, between 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm (UTC +07).

In addition to taking in-person questions from a live audience at WordCamp Asia 2023, Matt will answer a select few pre-submitted questions. Due to time constraints, we expect to cover around five questions.

If you prefer to ask your question asynchronously, this is your opportunity to send them in for Matt’s eyes and response. Just a reminder, the entire WordCamp Asia event will be live-streamed, including AMA.

Update @ 11 February – We are no longer accepting questions asynchronously as we prepare for the event. If you are attending the event, you can ask them with Matt in-person.
