Contributor Day is a day dedicated to WordPress and open source. Many WordCamps and WordPress events offer attendees the opportunity to participate. New contributors collaborate with seasoned and experienced contributors for the collective goal of making WordPress better.
WordCamp Asia 2023 is set to provide contributors with a platform to collaborate and improve WordPress. Your participation matters, and it makes all the difference. We present to you the second series of contributor stories. These are original stories submitted by the following contributors to WordCamp Asia 2023 Contributor Day Team.
If you’re a beginner to contributing to WordPress at Contributor Day, you can get some inspiration from this group of folks who have participated in Contributor day for the first time.
I went to the Contributor Day one time, which was also my first time. It was held on September 4th, one day after WordCamp Kathmandu 2022. Whichever field you select, the best and favourite thing to work on Contributor Day is to work as a team with new faces.
I had contributed to the Photos and Patterns section before. So, on Contributor Day, I contributed to something different, Polyglots.
WordPress has changed my world for good. I never knew building a website was easy without coding anything. And that there are many options for everything you want to do on a website.
There are many ways to connect with the global WordPress community. Some ways that I connect are through my senior co-workers and various social media platforms.
The areas of the WordPress world that are important to me are the different plugins and themes. So, hopefully, we’ll see some unique plugins and themes in the future!

‘My Contributor’s Day Story.’
This year was a thrilling experience for me at WordCamp Kathmandu 2022, held on September 3rd & 4th. Of course, it had to be unique since it was my first time to be part of such incredible programs that ignite the capabilities within you and push you to do further in life.
Well, talking about Contributor Day, then it was equally exciting. I got to learn from enthusiastic people who were very friendly and hungry to teach and contribute to the field of WordPress.
Previously, I did contribute to Patterns and Photos, and this time I contributed to Polyglots. And I must say, the experience was outstanding. I even got one more contribution badge as Translation Contributor, which is priceless.
My experience with my colleagues and meeting the WordPressers to contribute with my slightest effort was just mesmerisingly beautiful.

‘My First Contribution to WordPress.’
WordPress was a life changer for me. It helped to settle my professional career.
I was struggling in my initial professional career. Then I was introduced to WordPress and fell in love with it. 🙂
My FIRST contribution to WordPress was on a Core Contribution. We translated a lot of strings into Bangla at that event. I am glad I was part of it.
And guess what? I completed the most number of translations in that event.
Happy Start, ha? 🙂
I have attended several Contributor Days, including WCUS Contributor Day (online), Translation Day, and Accessibility Contributor Day.
On Contributor Day, I love to participate in contributions. Sometimes I have advantages as a developer, and I can join Core and Non-Core teams. I also enjoy writing documentation and notes, marketing-related stuff, and taking workshops.
WordPress settled my career. I have a soft corner in my heart for WordPress 🙂
I use WordPress Slack often and stay connected with all global teams. Everyone is so helpful.
I prioritize WordPress Core more than other areas. I love making contributions on Core as well.
Code Is Poetry 🙂

‘Yep! It was a typo correction.’
My first contribution was in 2019, and it was a typo correction. Earlier, I was discouraged and frightened to contribute to open-source projects, but after the first contribution, my fear was gone. Since then, I’ve made several contributions to the core code base, and it’s going on.
Also, I was involved with the default Twenty-Twenty-Three theme development team. It helps me comprehend WordPress more effectively and connect closely with the WordPress community.

‘Connecting the Dots.’
My first Contributor Day was in WordCamp Kathmandu 2019. Since then, I’ve attended 4-5 as much as I can remember. Getting to meet people who genuinely love WordPress and the active contributors who make WordPress possible is a real treat.
WordPress played an essential role in my career. I met so many people for making WordPress projects, WordCamp, and the local WordPress community. It has shaped my career and as well as the person that I am today. The WordPress community is one of the most valuable things that happened to me in my entire life.
I really believe it’s the WordPress community that makes WordPress so memorable. The people who donate their time, effort, and skills. It’s the people who contribute to the WordPress Core and plugins, creating even better ways to help you build websites online. It’s the people who work hard on creating great themes and plugins for every need you have. This contribution to the WordPress experience is something that always fascinates and inspires.
