Contributor Day questions

Do I need a separate ticket for the Contributor Day?

Yes. Make sure you have a Contributor Day ticket if you plan to participate. This is a separate ticket from WordCamp Asia tickets for session days. For more information, please check our official announcements.

What should I bring on Contributor Day?
  • Laptop – for accessing the Make WordPress Slack instance and the team’s online-based onboarding materials.
  • Email Ticket – to get the name badge and to enter the venue.
Can you help me with choosing the team? I am interested but unsure of which table to choose.

Contributing is easier than you think! Feel free to contact us and organizers can suggest a team or you can join the #contributor-day channel in Make WordPress Slack and ask your questions. We also have an orientation tool available to guide you in picking a table.

What do you get in return for contributing?

WordPress is driven by a commitment to open source, inclusiveness, giving, and diversity. There are a lot of reasons people choose to become active contributors. Find out how you’ll benefit from contributing to WordPress as well.

Do I need to have prior experience?
  • No, you don’t need any prior contributing experience – anyone can get involved. Many new contributors get started at Contributor Days on WordCamps around the world. That is a great way of gaining experience and improving your skills whilst making a meaningful contribution to a widely-used open-source WordPress project.
  • For those unsure about how they can best contribute to the WordPress project, a Contributor Day also represents an opportunity to dip a toe in the water of the different areas and ways of contributing and to discover what appeals to you or matches your skillset.
I am a developer. Can I still join?
  • Of course! There are a number of Teams where your skills will be helpful. Maybe you can join the Core, Meta, or CLI Team and contribute.
Do I need to prepare for it?
  • Though not mandatory, you will get more from the day if you arrive with some idea of what you want to do and if you take a little time beforehand to prepare. To help you decide on a contributing area, visit the Make WordPress website for information about what each Team does.
  • We will also release a series of onboarding guides to help you prepare for the event with instructions on how to set up your computer with any software you might need on the big day to help ensure you can hit the ground running.
Do I need to be a developer?
  • No, you do not have to be a programmer to take part. There are plenty of other ways to contribute to WordPress and its ecosystem. At the time of writing, there are 21 Teams involved in making WordPress. Here are some examples of tasks that benefit the community but don’t require a single line of code:
    • Do you speak more than one language? If so, the Polyglots Team would love to have you on board to help in translating the Core, themes, plugins, or documentation into other languages. There is much to do in this area
    • Are you great at explaining complex topics clearly and simply? Then you have a way with words and an ability to communicate and explain things in a way that makes it easy for others to understand. You would be great at writing documentation.
    • Do you have video production skills or a keen eye for design? The WordPress TV and Design teams are always looking for new contributors.

Official Hotel

Is the breakfast included in the hotel rates?

All discounted rooms include breakfast. Additional breakfast is available at NT$900 plus a 10% service charge per person (regardless of adults or children).

The cancellation policy

Any cancellation made after 14 days prior to every reservation’s arrival date will be subject to a whole period charge per booking as the cancellation penalty.

For example, if you make a reservation starting from March 6th, 2024, you may cancel the room without additional charge before February 21st. You will take back your deposit if any deposit has been paid.

How to manage my booking

If you want to extend the dates to stay, you can edit your check-out date via the editing link in your email. If you use the coupon to book a discounted room, your discount will apply to the rooms on valid dates (March 4th to March 12th).

If you are coming with your children

If you want to bring your family, please make a reservation for 1 or 2 adults with the coupon code above first. Once the reservation is confirmed, please email taipei.grand@hyatt.com or make a phone call at +886 2 2720 1234 and ask for support with your reference code.

Stay for children younger than 12 years old will be free of charge. Children older than 12 will be charged 1,900 TWD + 15.5% tax for each person (without breakfast).

I don’t see any rooms when I use the coupon code.

The discounted rooms are limited and in high demand. Rooms might sell out on specific days but be available on other days. You may change the time period to make a reservation with the discounted price first and subsequently make another reservation with the listed price. Grand Hyatt will help you arrange the same room.

Can I book multiple rooms at the same time?

No, due to the system’s settings, you can book at most 2 rooms in each reservation. Given the limited rooms and potential number of interested parties, we strongly recommend that you book the rooms immediately. Contacting Hyatt will require lead time, and rooms may run out during that period.
