Do you have to be an experienced speaker to apply?
No, you do not have to be an expert speaker to apply. However, we do recommend that you have some speaking experience. Speaking in front of a broad audience can be overwhelming even for experienced speakers, which is why we want to lend a helping hand. The Program team will be sharing resources and tips on how to put together a successful presentation as well as how to be more comfortable on stage. The Program team can organize a diversity speaker session or help get a mentor for you.
When reviewing applications, we will take into account your previous speaking experience, you can share videos of you speaking at events. If you don’t have any video ready, no worries, record a 5-10 minute video talking about your topic and upload it to a safe place and share the link in the speaker form.
There is also a Diverse Speaker Support group where selected speakers can get support and feedback from more experienced WordCamp speaker mentors.
Do you need help with your talk?
Here are some additional tips for submitting a speaker proposal:
- Be clear and concise in your proposal.
- Highlight your expertise and experience in the topic you are proposing to speak about.
- Provide a clear outline of your talk, including the key points you will cover.
- Include any relevant visuals or resources that you will use in your talk.
Underrepresented Speaker Support
We take diversity seriously and encourage members from underrepresented groups to answer our call!
We are happy to announce that we have launched the Underrepresented Speaker Support Initiative in the hope of removing financial barriers for speakers at the same time as this call.

What are the next steps?
Once we have received your application, we will review it and let you know if you have been selected. If you are selected, you will receive a formal invitation email that will help if you need to apply for a visa to travel to Taiwan. We are also working on an eVisa program by the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs for certain countries. Depending on your nationality, you may have different visa requirements to enter Taiwan. For detailed information, please go to meettaiwan.com.
How many talks can you submit?
We’re a small team and would like to be spending our time creating more value. We understand you might have many ideas and topics to speak about but as we are expecting a big volume of applications, please limit to two, if you do submit more, we’d only consider the 2 latest entries. Send us your very best talk topics!
Should you buy a ticket?
You can purchase a ticket when ticket sales have opened. If you are selected as a speaker, we will be giving you a complimentary ticket to attend the event. Then you can transfer your purchased ticket to someone else.
Are you open to be a backup speaker?
During the event we may need to activate a backup speaker due to incidents out of our control. Just in case, let us know if you are willing to be selected as a backup speaker.
But not to worry, by opting in for Backup Speaker doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t be selected as a main speaker. It just makes the program team easier to know the applicants who were open for the backup speaker, just in case they are not selected as the main speaker.
Visa Letter
If you require a visa to travel to Taiwan in 2024, let us know in your application so that we can send you a letter to make your visa application process smoother. This is not a letter of invitation, but it will state the following:
- That you are attending the event
- The dates of the conference
- The purpose of the conference
For further visa information, we will prepare another post to list the application rules in Taiwan. Please stay tuned.
We are looking forward to receiving your application!
