As we countdown to WordCamp Asia 2024, each week we’re inviting you to go behind the lineup and get to know the folks who will be taking to the stage. In today’s post, we chat with YI-TING SHEN, a Taiwanese cyber-security expert about building your own security tools, and safe plugin development practice.
Q. Firstly, welcome to the lineup! We’re so glad to have you here. Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself? Where will you be joining the event from, and what does your day-to-day look like?
My name is YI-TING SHEN, but I am more accustomed to everyone calling me Noflag. I am Taiwanese. I am passionate about information security technology, and occasionally develop interesting projects. I have been working for an information security company for more than three years.
I also work as an Organizer in the Google Developer Groups (GDG) in Taichung, Taiwan, supporting Google’s technology exchange activities. I often think about what kind of projects to do and go to seminars to share this interesting content. As a GDG Organizer, I think this is the most interesting part.
Q. We’re lucky to be welcoming a diverse range of speakers to our program in 2024. What interested you to apply to WordCamp Asia as a speaker?
I saw the Taiwanese WordPress community promoting the event at seminars, and after communicating with them, I was determined to submit an application.
Q. What can audiences expect to learn from your talk/s? Are there any advance sneak peeks or knowledge bombs you can offer us?
We have developed an interesting white box detection tool. Our content is more oriented towards how you can create your own information security detection tools through the development process.
In my session, you can learn to build various security tools and work together to create a safer security environment for WordPress. At the same time, developers can also learn safer plugin development skills. I hope everyone will gain something.
Q. What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Asia 2024? Is there someone you’re looking forward to rubbing shoulder with, or a local delicacy you’d like to sample?
I hope to meet and communicate with many developers from different countries. As a Taiwanese, I am looking forward to taking everyone tasting Taiwanese food!
Q. Tell us something about yourself that we might not know. Party tricks? Secret hobbies?
I am a human being who hates Taiwan’s education system, so I joined a security company after graduating from high school. Also, I particularly like to assemble models, such as Lego models that you can assemble into a character or building.
