Behind the Lineup: Phoomparin Mano

Posted

As we countdown to WordCamp Asia 2024, each week we’re inviting you to go behind the lineup and get to know the folks who will be taking to the stage. In today’s post, we chat with Phoomparin Mano, an indie hacker from Bangkok.

Q. Firstly, welcome to the lineup! We’re so glad to have you here. Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself? Where will you be joining the event from, and what does your day-to-day look like?

I’m Poom, a software engineer from Bangkok, Thailand. I like to work with cutting-edge web technologies and explore low-level tech such as WebAssembly, Zig and Rust, and I also organize 50+ events for creative technologists in Bangkok, such as the Bangkok Open Source Hackathon.

I’ve taken a break from work now, so mostly an indie hacker—travelling around Bangkok to write code among nature, relax in onsen baths, and hosting events for my Thai folks.

Q. We’re lucky to be welcoming a diverse range of speakers to our program in 2024. What interested you to apply to WordCamp Asia as a speaker?

My senior Jabont introduced me to WordCamp—I don’t usually use WordPress much, but the community seems really friendly and nice, so I want to meet the awesome folks working on the web.

Q. What can audiences expect to learn from your talk/s? Are there any advance sneak peeks or knowledge bombs you can offer us?

I’ll share how web technologies such as Astro, Svelte and Nuxt can make your life a lot easier, and how modern JavaScript doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Expect to see how you can integrate WordPress with highly-interactive and customized applications e.g. 3D websites!

Q. What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Asia 2024? Is there someone you’re looking forward to rubbing shoulder with, or a local delicacy you’d like to sample?

I look forward to meeting the people there! This will be my first time in the WordPress community.

Q. Tell us something about yourself that we might not know. Party tricks? Secret hobbies?

I like onsen baths, macarons, medium-rare steaks and being in the wilderness, and swimming in seas and waterfalls! I watched 1080 episodes of One Piece in 3 months—spent around 480 hours straight binging the show.

Q. Lightning Round!
