It’s been a while since Gutenberg has arrived in WordPress core, and has since opened endless possibilities for content creators, introducing a significant change from the classic editor world in which such layouts would have been impossible to accomplish without developer intervention. But as we all know, this is only the first step towards a more user-friendly content creation flow. Outside of the post content, site owners today are still limited to a fairly inflexible set of widgets and other content elements which may not be configurable at all, depending on the theme or plugins providing them. This is what the next phase of Gutenberg is tackling.
This talk explores what full-site editing with Gutenberg blocks will look like, and which new opportunities and challenges it presents to the WordPress ecosystem. It particularly focuses on how to be prepared for this paradigm as a theme author, demonstrating what themes of tomorrow will encompass.

This talk will discuss how we can teach kids blogging using WordPress. Included in this talk is a teaching model used in Manila, Philippines wherein teaching students WordPress is part of their Media Literacy Class (K to 12) and Management Information Systems (MIS) courses. I will share techniques and baseline information on how we ran this course locally, which was recognized by the Philippine Department of Education.
WordPress now has an SEO benefit no other CMS can match! What is that? Well, the web consists of lots and lots of websites filled with content. All these bits of content are made up of individual blocks of content, that up until a few years ago, were just “blocks” or “blobs”, without context.
The major search engines started a project called Schema.org to allow webmasters everywhere to give machine readable context to these blocks.
In the same period, WordPress developed a new editor, that is also entirely block based. The new block editor allows us to apply Schema to our blocks, which suddenly gives WordPress huge SEO advantage. In this talk, I will explain the background and how to use this to make sure your site ranks higher in the search engines.
In this talk, I will both address how you can use this using existing plugins, and also how you can add schema to blocks yourself, easily, using the Yoast SEO Schema API. This talk aims at informing both marketers and developers.
