We\u2019re excited to open applications for Open-Source Books<\/strong> for the Contributor Day Open-Source Library<\/strong> at WordCamp Asia 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formerly known as the Human Library<\/strong>, the Open-Source Library is a conversation-focused space where community members can learn directly from experienced contributors and experts, called Open-Source Books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re an active contributor, we invite you to apply and share your expertise with the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is an Open-Source Library and Book?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Open-Source Library is the updated name for the Human Library held during WordCamp Asia 2024<\/a> and 2025<\/a> Contributor Days. The new name blends WordPress\u2019s \u201copen-source\u201d spirit with the original \u201clibrary\u201d concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the title has changed, the format remains the same \u2014 a space for one-on-one conversations where community members can \u201cborrow\u201d a person instead of a book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, Open Source Books are people!<\/strong> They\u2019re experts who volunteer to share ideas, lessons, lived experiences, and personal stories through short, 15-minute one-on-one conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We call them \u201cbooks\u201d because the concept follows a library model; learners can \u201cborrow\u201d an expert and learn from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only difference is that instead of reading a traditional book, attendees borrow a person for a meaningful, real-time conversation. It usually takes the form of a simple question-and-answer session or a relaxed coffee-table discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open-Source Books can speak about many topics, including technology, community, creativity, inclusion, education, leadership, contribution pathways, career journeys, and personal growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While many stories naturally connect to WordPress, the Library welcomes a broad range of open-source and real-world experiences that help others learn and grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Open-Source Library is meant for conversations, not lectures. These are personal, human interactions grounded in curiosity and mutual respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By participating as an Open-Source Book, you become a living source of knowledge\u2014someone people can learn from, ask questions to, and connect with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guidelines for Being an Open-Source Book<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1.  Respect and Inclusion<\/strong>
    <\/strong> The Open-Source Library thrives on openness and empathy. Each conversation should be based on mutual respect. Attendees may come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, so approach every question with kindness and curiosity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Timeframe and Format
    <\/strong>A borrower session runs for 15 minutes<\/strong>, and you choose the number of sessions that works for you. Whether you want to spread them across the morning and afternoon or keep them grouped together, it\u2019s up to you. We\u2019ll provide a set of available time slots in the program for you to pick from. Sessions are mostly conversational. Slides or formal presentations are completely optional, and you can use your laptop if you\u2019d like to include them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Authenticity and Openness<\/strong>
    <\/strong>Bring your genuine self. The most memorable stories come from honesty; sharing not just successes, but also lessons, challenges, and turning points. Speak from experience, and let your story reflect your unique perspective.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Non-Promotional Environment
    <\/strong>This is not a marketing or recruitment space. Avoid promoting products, services, or commercial offerings. The focus is on connection, inspiration, and knowledge-sharing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
