Maciej Pilarski (go ahead and call him Matt) is a Community Wrangler at Automattic, where he works on WordPress.org with a focus on educational initiatives that connect the next generation of contributors to the global WordPress community.
As one of the admins behind the WordPress Credits Program, Matt works with universities across Central & Eastern Europe and Asia to bring students into open source contribution — pairing them with mentors, building institutional partnerships, and helping turn academic coursework into real-world impact on software used by 43% of the web.
Originally from Poland and now based in Okinawa, Japan, Matt brings a uniquely cross-cultural perspective to community building — bridging local ecosystems in places like Kraków, Riga, Tallinn, and Tokyo with the wider WordPress world. He’s passionate about making open source contribution more accessible and making sure the WordPress community reflects the full diversity of the people who use it.
