“My contribution journey showed me how even small actions can blossom into confidence, leadership, and community impact.”

My WordPress Journey

My journey as a WordPress contributor began with something very small: a moment of confusion. I opened my first Trac ticket simply because a label didn’t make sense to me, not knowing anything about accessibility or how contributions worked. That tiny action of creating a Ticket #44714 became the spark that connected me to a global community of people who care deeply about building something better together.

What inspired me to continue was realizing that even the simplest bug report could positively impact millions of users around the world. Receiving props and that very first badge was more than recognition; it was a powerful reminder that every contribution, no matter how small, matters in an open-source ecosystem.

Over time, my journey grew along with my confidence: becoming a Test Team Representative, serving as a table lead, speaking at WordCamps, and eventually being selected as a Test Lead for the WordPress release squad was an honor that still means a lot to me.

Each step taught me that contribution is not just about code, tickets, or tasks; it is about nurturing a community, much like watering a garden. With steady care, everything grows: the software, the people, and the sense of shared purpose. Contributing has changed me personally by giving me a space where learning never stops and where every voice is valued.

To anyone standing on the edge, unsure whether to take the first step: just begin. Contribute in your own way, at your own pace. You may discover, as I did, that giving back becomes something you truly love and maybe even something you can’t stop doing.
