“My systems thinking perspective, stemming from having Asperger’s, became my strength in the WordPress community.”

My WordPress Journey

For a long time, I viewed the world differently. As someone with Asperger’s, I don’t just see objects or people; I see systems and patterns. In many industries, this neurodivergence was a challenge. In the WordPress community, it became my strength.

My journey began with a simple desire to solve technical problems. But as I dived deeper into the ecosystem, I realised that the community itself is the most complex and beautiful system of all. I applied my “systems thinking”, the same philosophy I use at my work, to community organising.

This perspective allowed me to scale my contribution from attending WordCamp Kuala Lumpur, then organising WordCamp Kuala Lumpur, serving as a meetup organiser, and eventually as an organiser for WordCamp Asia. And now, I am the Community Event Supporter.

I contribute because I believe in building sustainable systems. Whether it is optimising a website for speed or optimising an event for inclusivity, the goal is the same: to create a foundation where others can grow.

My story is proof that you don’t need to fit a standard mould to be a leader. If you see the world differently, the WordPress community doesn’t just need your code; it needs your perspective.
