Education Team

Introduction

The WordPress Community team drives education-focused initiatives to bring WordPress into colleges and learning environments across the world.

The team focuses on three clear outcomes:

• Build awareness of WordPress within academic institutions

• Help students understand how WordPress works through practical learning

• Create pathways for students to actively join and contribute to the global WordPress community

Through structured programs like WordPress Campus Connect, WordPress Student Clubs, and WP Credits, the Education Team enables institutions to introduce WordPress in a meaningful way. These initiatives encourage students to explore real-world use cases, build hands-on skills, and take their first steps towards contributing to the open source ecosystem.

The Education Programs

Educational program leads and contributors support several initiatives designed to connect students and universities with WordPress in different ways.

WP Credits

WP Credits focuses on helping students understand open-source contributions and how to get involved in the WordPress project.

This initiative explores ways for academic institutions to recognize contributions to WordPress as part of a student’s learning journey.

Students participating in WP Credits learn how to contribute to various WordPress teams and experience open-source collaboration in practice.

WordPress Campus Connect

WordPress Campus Connect introduces WordPress directly to college campuses through workshops and educational sessions.

These events help students understand what WordPress is, how it powers a large portion of the web, and how to start building websites with it.

Campus Connect events focus primarily on awareness, learning, and practical exposure to WordPress. Many students discover WordPress for the first time through these programs.

WordPress Student Clubs

WordPress Student Clubs build small, active communities within campuses where students can continue learning even after their first exposure to WordPress.

These clubs empower students to take ownership by organising learning sessions, workshops, and peer discussions around WordPress and web development.

They create a consistent, safe space for students to engage with WordPress regularly, strengthen their skills over time, and build a deeper understanding of the ecosystem.
