Contributor Day at WordCamp Asia has always been about learning, collaboration, and giving back to WordPress.
Alongside the traditional Contributor Day format, this year we are introducing a set of focused, hands-on workshops designed for attendees new to WordPress or contributing.
These workshops are not a replacement for the existing Contributor Day activities. Instead, they are intended to support participants who may not yet feel ready to jump into contribution but want to learn, build confidence, and understand how they can eventually get involved.
To make this possible, we’re opening a Call for Workshop Facilitators and inviting members of the WordPress community to help us lead and support these workshops on the Contributor Day.
What’s Our Actual Plan for the Contributor Day?
The traditional Contributor Day experience will continue as usual for attendees who are already comfortable contributing. In parallel, we are planning a series of hands-on workshops that provide a more guided learning environment for newcomers.
These workshops focus on practical learning and active participation, allowing attendees to follow along, experiment, and ask for help as they go. The goal is to create a welcoming entry point into the WordPress ecosystem without pressure to contribute before they feel ready.
Planned Workshop Topics
We are currently planning the following workshops for Contributor Day:
- Beginner WordPress Workshop
- Full Site Editing (FSE) Theme Workshop
- Getting Started with WordPress Playground
- WordPress Core Development Setup Workshop
- Newbie Orientation Workshop for Contribution
- Beginner’s Guide to SEO
Workshop Facilitation Model
Each workshop will be supported by a small facilitation team to ensure a smooth and effective experience:
- 1 Lead Facilitator.
Lead Facilitators are responsible for owning and leading the workshop. This includes preparing the workshop content, defining the flow of the session, and delivering it during Contributor Day. Lead Facilitators will guide the workshop from the stage and help set the pace for participants.
Once the workshop plan is ready, Lead Facilitators are expected to connect with their Co-Facilitators and share the plan in advance. This ensures everyone is aligned and prepared to work together on the day of the workshop. - 2 Co-Facilitators.
Co-Facilitators play a key role in the success of hands-on workshops. Their primary responsibility is to support attendees during the session, especially when participants get stuck, need clarification, or fall behind during practical exercises.
Co-Facilitators work closely with the Lead Facilitator and are expected to be familiar with the workshop plan ahead of time. During the workshop, they help ensure attendees can keep up and have a positive learning experience.
This structure allows the Lead Facilitator to focus on delivering the workshop while Co-Facilitators support attendees during hands-on activities.
Who Should Apply?
We welcome applications from community members who enjoy teaching, mentoring, and helping others learn. You do not need to be a long-time contributor to apply. If you have experience, clarity, and a willingness to support newcomers, we’d love to hear from you.
Required Time Commitment
Facilitators should be available to:
- Prepare for the workshop ahead of the event
- Coordinate with fellow co-facilitators
- Be present and actively involved during Contributor Day
We aim to keep expectations clear and respectful of everyone’s time.
Why Get Involved?
Facilitating a workshop on Contributor Day is a meaningful way to give back to the WordPress community. It’s an opportunity to help others take their first steps, share your knowledge, and contribute to a more inclusive and welcoming experience.
You’ll also collaborate with contributors from around the world and help shape how Contributor Day supports new community members.
How to Apply?
If you’re interested in being a Lead Facilitator or Co-Facilitator, please apply using the application form linked below. The form will ask about your experience, preferred workshop topics, and how you’d like to contribute.
Contributor Day is about learning together and supporting one another. If you’re excited about hands-on learning and helping newcomers feel comfortable in the WordPress ecosystem, we encourage you to apply even if you’re unsure which role fits you best.
We look forward to building a more meaningful Contributor Day with you.
