“Over the past year, I transformed from struggling with WordPress contribution processes to actively contributing across multiple teams—especially Gutenberg and Training—and now guide new contributors with confidence and consistency.”

My WordPress Journey

I began contributing to WordPress about three years ago, but my first two years were challenging. My contributions were inconsistent, and most attempts did not lead to meaningful results. I struggled to understand the contribution workflow, the submission process, and how to align my efforts with community standards. This often left me feeling stuck and unsure about how to proceed.

Everything shifted during the past year. With the support of my team and a commitment to put in extra effort, I gradually became more comfortable and confident in the contribution process. As I gained clarity, I started contributing more effectively and began seeing positive outcomes.

My first major breakthrough came when I started contributing to Gutenberg. I worked on several issues, submitted fixes, and had multiple contributions successfully merged. This experience motivated me to explore other areas within the WordPress ecosystem. From there, I expanded my contributions to include core development, Polyglots for translations, WP-CLI, and additional teams.

One of the most meaningful phases of my journey began when I became involved with the Training Team. I worked on a variety of tasks, actively participated in team activities, initiated meetings, served as a meeting note taker, and supported editorial responsibilities as a Training Team Editor. This involvement helped me better understand the collaborative nature of the project.

Currently, I am part of the Training Team Guide Program, where I mentor new contributors and support them in starting their own journey within the team. Helping others take their first steps has become one of the most rewarding aspects of my experience as a WordPress contributor.
