My WordPress Journey

Hey! I’m Alje. I was pretty new to Yoast as an Email and Chat Support Engineer when I had the fantastic opportunity to attend WordCamp Asia for the first time. Our team had a Yoast booth to manage, and it was an exciting experience overall.

Our events manager encouraged us to join Contributor Day. Honestly, I had zero idea what that was; I’d heard the term before, but had no clue what actually happens there. So, two of my colleagues from Cebu (also first-timers!) and I decided to sit at the Support table, since that’s what we do best at Yoast.

To my surprise, Contributor Day felt like a live version of the WordPress Support Forum! I didn’t even bring my laptop, but a friend lent me his. I ended up answering two WooCommerce questions—one about transferring products, orders, and users, and another about an email issue. Later, we also joined the Polyglots table, where I suggested six strings for Cebuano translation.

I don’t have contributor badges yet, but I hope to soon! It was such a fun and meaningful experience that I started helping out in the WordPress forums during my spare time. I’m still with Yoast now, and I’m really hoping to join another major WordCamp in the future.
