Networking consistently ranks as the top reason attendees flock to flagship WordCamps. This year, we’re excited to elevate your networking experience even further! This post will guide you through how you can maximize your networking experience with our badge and NFC chips.
Badge QR Code: Elevating Your Networking Experience
We’ll be printing a unique QR code on your badge that connects directly to your Gravatar profile linked to the email address used for your ticket (not the purchaser’s email). Just scan the QR code, and you’ll be able to showcase your profile effortlessly to new connections.
Important note: Make sure your email address is up-to-date by February 17th, as we will finalize the QR code link.

What next?
To maximize the benefits of our networking enhancement, we recommend that you create a Gravatar profile with the same email address that received our ticket email (Your Ticket to WordCamp Asia 2025 | Manila) if you haven’t done so already.
What if I don’t have a Gravatar profile yet?
No worries! If someone scans your QR code and there’s no profile linked to that email address, they’ll be directed to a simple landing page.
You can activate your Gravatar profile by scanning your own QR code and easily claim your profile by entering your email address (the one used to purchase the tickets to WordCamp Asia).

Simplifying Connections with NFC Chips
In case your QR code doesn’t work for any reason or if you just prefer something physical, we’ve got a backup plan to ensure smooth networking experiences.

How to Use NFC Chips at WordCamp Asia 2025
NFC chips will make it easy to share your Gravatar profile with other attendees. Here’s how to set them up and use them effectively.
Configuring Your NFC Chip at WCAsia 2025
- Scan the new NFC tag using your phone. This is necessary to configure the NFC chip to link to your Gravatar account.
- You can reconfigure these NFC chips later for other uses if you like!
- Enter your email address.
- If you already have a Gravatar account, the tag will automatically link to your public profile.
- If you don’t have a Gravatar account, you’ll be prompted to create one. Once your profile is set up, the tag will link to it.
- Any future taps on the tag will open the assigned profile on any phone.
- Once assigned, a tag cannot be easily changed to a different profile (though we can manually update it if needed).
Enabling and Using NFC on Your Phone
Finding the NFC reader can be tricky on some phones. Here’s a quick guide:
iPhones
- The NFC reader activates automatically when placed near an NFC tag.
- If it doesn’t work, you can manually trigger it:
- Go to Shortcuts > Automations > New Automation > NFC.
- Watch this quick video (~1 min) for a demo.
The NFC reader is usually located near the top edge of the phone. You may need to adjust its position slightly to find the right spot—this gets easier with practice!
Android Phones
- The NFC reader typically activates automatically when near an NFC tag.
- If not, you may need to turn it on manually.
- The setting is usually found in Settings > Connected Devices > Connection Preferences > NFC (steps may vary by phone model).
- Here’s a quick (~1 min) video guide.
On most Android phones, the NFC reader is located on the back, near the camera.
User Control & Privacy
- You control what information is shared on your Gravatar profile and how public it is.
- Gravatar is designed with transparency and user consent, ensuring data privacy.
Reprogramming Your NFC Chip
NFC chips are flexible and can be reprogrammed for other uses beyond the event. While we don’t officially endorse this during WordCamp Asia, the chip is yours to keep, so feel free to explore new possibilities!
Act Now: Amplify Your Networking Experience
To sum up, here are things we recommend you doing before the event:
- Make sure your ticket’s email address is correct by February 17.
- Update or create your Gravatar account with the same email address for a seamless introduction experience.
- Use our NFC chips as a quick, efficient backup for making connections.
We can’t wait to see you at WordCamp Asia! Let’s get connected in this premier open-source fest in Asia ever!
