What does it mean to contribute?

Contributing to an open-source project like WordPress means actively participating in its growth, improvement, and maintenance. Contributions can be both technical and non-technical, with opportunities for everyone to make an impact:

Technical contributions

  • Test and report bugs in WordPress core software, themes, or plugins.
  • Design or develop WordPress themes or plugins and share them on WordPress.org.
  • Write and submit patches for bug fixes or add new features to WordPress core or plugins.
  • Contribute to the WordPress mobile apps by improving code, enhancing UX, or conducting tests.

Non-Technical Contributions

  • Write or enhance WordPress documentation to make it more helpful and clear.
  • Translate WordPress into your local language, including documents, videos, or plugins.
  • Participate in support forums to help other users troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Help create or refine WordPress lesson plans and resources for instructors.
  • Promote WordPress through creative outreach and advocacy.
  • Take photos for Openverse or assist in curating them.
  • Organize or join local WordPress meetups and WordCamps.
  • Brainstorm ideas to make WordPress more sustainable for the future.

Whether you’re a developer, designer, writer, or community organizer, your unique skills can help shape the future of WordPress!

Don’t worry if this is your first time attending Contributor Day. You’ll be guided by the Table Leads of each team, who is an experienced contributor and will assist you with onboarding and more
