Contributor Day at WordCamp Asia 2025 is set to bring back the Human Library, a programme that we first introduced in WordCamp Asia 2024.

This initiative invites attendees to engage in one-on-one conversations with experienced WordPress contributors, called “Books”, who share their knowledge, stories, and skills in a personal setting. It’s a chance for attendees to learn directly from the experts in the community, get fresh ideas, ask questions, and get inspired.

At WordCamp Asia 2024, one of our “Books” a seasoned WordPress developer, shared how their journey into open-source inspired an attendee to start contributing code to WordPress core. This story is just one example of the meaningful connections and impact the Human Library can create.

The Human Library is a great opportunity to meet new people, make connections, and learn from the best.

Becoming a “Book”

The Human Library works thanks to the amazing “Books”. These volunteers are experienced contributors, speakers, and members of the WordPress community who happily share what they know. Their generosity shows the true spirit of giving back that makes the WordPress community special.

If you’d like to be a “Book” for the 2025 Human Library, keep an eye out for the recruitment announcements and sign up to share your story and inspire others!

How It Works

Signing-Up

Attendees will be able to sign up for sessions with their chosen “Books”. Each session will be about 15 to 20 minutes long to make sure that everyone gets a chance to participate. More information about how to sign up and session times will be shared as the event gets closer.

Dedicated Space

A comfortable and welcoming space will be set up exclusively for Human Library sessions during Contributor Day. This area will be well-organized to keep track of session times and make sure everything runs smoothly between the “Books” and the Attendees.

Guidelines for a Great and Positive Experience

  1. Respectful Engagement:
Attendees are expected to engage in a respectful manner. Treat “books” with courtesy and appreciation for their voluntary contributions.
  2. Code of Conduct Adherence:
All interactions must adhere to the Code of Conduct. Inappropriate or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
  3. Mindful Questions:
Attendees are encouraged to ask thoughtful and relevant questions that align with the purpose of the Human Library. Avoid asking questions that may be considered intrusive or inappropriate.
  4. Consent and Comfort:
“Books” are not obligated to answer questions they are uncomfortable with. Respect their boundaries and be understanding if certain topics are off-limits.
  5. Time Management:
Attendees should be mindful of the allocated session duration. Use the time efficiently to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to experience the Human Library.
