WordCamp Asia 2025 is shaping up to be a premier tech event, driving the future of the open-source web. At its heart lies a vibrant community and a spirit of giving back. It’s the passionate individuals within this community who are shaping the event into something truly special. Let’s meet four of these remarkable people and discover how their dedication to helping others is making WordCamp Asia 2025 an unforgettable experience.
Zunaid Amin
Connecting with People Behind the Code
Zunaid is a WordPress whiz who loves to share his knowledge. He started out by contributing to the code of WordPress, but then he realized how important it is to connect with the people behind the code. “It was time to move beyond the code and connect with people,” he says. Now, he’s leading the Volunteer Team for WordCamp Asia, making sure everyone has a great experience. “Seeing the enthusiastic response with over 270 applicants is incredibly inspiring!”, he adds.
Tahir Shahzad
Building Bridges and Making WordPress Accessible
Tahir is a true community builder. He started a WordPress community from scratch in 2016, bringing people together and making WordPress accessible to more people. “With no established community, I co-founded a vibrant group through informal meetings,” he shares. “My background in Urdu poetry and essays fueled my initial contribution: translating WordPress for better accessibility.” Tahir’s story is a reminder that giving back can make the WordPress world a more welcoming place for everyone.
Angelle Marie Garcia
A Passionate WordPress Contributor: Angelle’s Journey
Angelle, a passionate WordPress developer from the Philippines, is excited to be an organizer for WordCamp Asia 2025. She’s been an active community member, volunteering and contributing to various projects. As an organizer, she’s focused on ensuring a smooth event experience for attendees and speakers. She’s passionate about fostering community growth and inspiring the next generation of WordPress contributors.
Jhimross Olinares
From Helping Hand to Leading the Way
Jhimross, from the Contributor Day team, is all about lending a helping hand. He started out by answering questions in the WordPress forums way back in 2015! “My initial contribution revolved around providing assistance to others in the forums and addressing technical support inquiries,” he remembers. But that was just the beginning. He got more and more involved, exploring different teams like Documentation, Polyglots, and Training.
“Sharing my love for WordPress is more than just a job for me—it’s about empowering others to succeed,” he says. Jhimross is making sure Contributor Day is a fun and collaborative space where everyone can learn and contribute.
These stories show us that WordCamp Asia is more than just a conference; it’s a community built on the generosity and passion of people like Jhimross, Angelle, Tahir, and Zunaid. We’re so grateful for their dedication, and we can’t wait to celebrate with them (and you!) in Manila!
