Bring Your Cameras to WordCamp Asia!

Bring your cameras (or your hi-res phones) to WordCamp Asia, and contribute them to the WordPress Photo Directory!

There’s something special about taking photos at WordCamps. It helps you remember and reminisce about your time with WordPress friends, the places you saw, and the flavors that you enjoyed. Why not also share those photos for others to use through the Photo Directory?

Guidelines for Submitting Photos

There are a few guidelines to keep in mind when submitting photos (all official guidelines are here):

  • You must have a WordPress.org account to submit them. (If you don’t have an account, you can register one here.)
  • Image file size requirements:
    • Minimum of 2000 by 2000 pixels in size
    • Maximum of 7500 by 7500 pixels in size
    • Between 1 and 20 MB in file size
    • JPEG format
  • They must be a photograph (not AI or created graphics) that are high resolution, clear, not blurry, and void of any marks (lens spots, watermarks, etc.).
  • They must be YOUR photograph submitted by you.
  • Your photo must not contain human faces or other identifiable information like names (nametags, screens with info, license plates, home addresses, etc.), and must not be composed primarily of other art (like taking a photo of the Mona Lisa in Paris and submitting it, for example).
  • Photos should not contain nudity, profanity, or consist primarily of brand information. Photos that depict violence, gore, hate, or sexual content will not be accepted. (Do not focus on a logo, or make a corporate product the sole focus of the image. For example, a photo of a can of soda would not be approved, as it is primarily branding.)
  • The photo must not contain overlays.
    • Avoid overlaying your photo with watermarks, copyright notices, text, graphics, or borders.
  • The photo must not be over-processed or over-edited.
    • Submissions should be minimally processed. Some degree of corrections of color and contrast are fine, but please refrain from excessive adjustments and dramatic filters.
  • Avoid submitting “the same” photo more than once – that is, a slightly different angle, etc. Choose the best one and submit it.
  • There are already MANY photos of flowers and fields, so try to focus on interesting things that are specific to WordPress and Manila. Buildings, streets, etc. make great photos. (Just remember to avoid faces and license plates.)

When you’re ready, you can submit your photos on the WordPress site.

What Happens Next?

Photos that are submitted are held in moderation for one of the Photo Team Moderators to review and approve. As the moderators are volunteers (as with all of the WordPress team members) please be patient as the team works through them.

Once approved or declined, you will receive an email with either a link to your published photo, or declining the photo with a reason selected.

Don’t be discouraged! If a photo is declined, keep trying! Take feedback and strive for clearer photos and submit something new.

Something Really Cool

Once your photos have been approved by the moderators, two really cool things happen.

You get a badge on your WordPress profile.

And your photos are linked in your WordPress.org profile.

Attending Contributor Day?

If you’re attending Contributor Day, stop by the Photos Team table for more info, to say hello, to submit a few photos, check on photos that have been submitted, or to get feedback on photos you’d like to submit.
