Behind the Scenes: WordCamp Asia 2025 Taking Shape at PICC

The WordCamp Asia 2025 team recently visited the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) and were impressed by its sprawling complex and diverse architecture. The venue offers ample space for all the WordCamp events, including a massive reception hall, sponsor areas, and a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces. The PICC is committed to accessibility and will have a dedicated page with details. Mark your calendars for February 20-22, 2025!

We recently visited the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), and it’s all starting to come together for WordCamp Asia 2025. The PICC is a truly expansive venue, and we’re excited about the possibilities it offers for our event.

Our organizing team and the production company met early at the PICC lobby, and it was inspiring to picture WordCamp in such an iconic building. The venue’s history and its architectural style make it a standout not just in the Philippines but across Asia.

The PICC’s brutalist architecture, with its varied ceiling heights and shapes, creates a dynamic atmosphere that will enhance the WordCamp experience. As you move through the different areas, the lighting and design set an engaging tone, giving each space its own character.

Mapping Out Key Spaces

During our visit, we planned the layout for several key spaces:

  • Sponsor and Exhibition Area: Located in the spacious Reception Hall, with plenty of room for booths, demos, and networking opportunities.
  • Meeting Halls: These will host sessions and workshops, and we’ve ensured that the layout and traffic flow are intuitive for attendees to navigate smoothly.

Additionally, we placed snack and coffee stations strategically throughout the venue to keep everyone refreshed and energized.

Creating Community and Relaxation Spaces

We’re excited to transform certain sections of the venue into inviting spaces for attendees to connect and relax. These lounges will provide a comfortable environment for networking and unwinding throughout the event.

In line with our mission to make WordCamp Asia 2025 as inclusive and family-friendly as possible, we’re putting special emphasis on creating areas and activities that cater to all attendees. Stay tuned for more updates on this soon.

Our Design team is busy mapping out the dimensions and placements, ensuring that the open-source spirit is reflected throughout the venue’s historic setting. We’re excited to see how the event’s visuals will come to life within this iconic space.

Prioritizing Accessibility

Accessibility remains a top priority for us. The PICC’s layout offers a solid foundation, and we’re enhancing it further by:

  • Developing a dedicated accessibility page on our website, complete with detailed guides and resources.
  • Creating an accessibility map and adding navigational stickers throughout the venue, ensuring that all pathways are clear and easy to follow.

Catering and Social Events

We’ve partnered with our catering provider to create a menu that offers a variety of delicious options for different dietary preferences. Whether you’re in the mood for a full meal or just a quick snack, there’ll be plenty of options available to keep you energized throughout the event.

We also got a sneak peek at the after-party venue, and it’s set to be a fantastic space for everyone to unwind and connect (more details will follow in a separate post). Our social events are designed to provide even more opportunities for the community to come together and celebrate.

Looking Ahead: WordCamp Asia 2025

This visit left our team inspired and motivated. We’re committed to making WordCamp Asia 2025 an experience that’s about more than just sessions—it’s about celebrating the WordPress community and building lasting connections.

Mark your calendars for February 20-22, 2025, and join us at the historic PICC in Manila, Philippines. We’re looking forward to welcoming you to a WordCamp that’s set to be both impactful and unforgettable.
