Your Voice Matters: Building an Inclusive WordCamp Asia 2025

Your voice is the key to shaping a more inclusive, vibrant, and dynamic WordCamp Asia 2025. As we gear up for this incredible event, we’re reminded that it’s the diverse voices and experiences of our community that truly make a WordCamp so special.

As we have extended the “Call for Speakers” deadline for WordCamp Asia 2025, we are looking for a diverse speaker lineup.

We’ve already received some great applications and are still looking for more applications from underrepresented groups.

As a diverse global community, it’s our responsibility to reflect that diversity on stage at WordCamp Asia 2025.

Why Does Diversity Matter?

We believe WordPress is all about giving everyone a voice. Its mission of “Democratize Publishing” and the four freedoms it provides are centered on empowering people to share their voices with the world.

Because of this inclusivity, WordPress has touched billions of lives and become the most used CMS in the world supporting more than 43% of all the websites. Inclusivity has been a key factor in WordPress’s success.

For our WordCamp to be successful, we need voices from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. When people from different walks of life come together, they bring unique ideas and experiences that can lead to groundbreaking innovations.

In a nutshell, diversity and representation truly matter—and your voice matters too!

Diversity Goals for WordCamp Asia 2025

To ensure our speaker lineup reflects the diversity of the WordPress community, we’ve set the following goals.

  • Gender Diversity: We are committed to fostering an inclusive speaker lineup that reflects the full spectrum of gender identities and expressions. This includes aiming for at least 50% representation of women, as well as people who identify as non-binary, transgender, genderfluid, or any other gender minority.
  • Experts from Asia: We’re committed to highlighting Asia’s WordPress talent. Our goal is to have more speakers from Asian countries to share their unique insights and knowledge.

Your Role in Increasing Representation

Your voice is crucial in helping us achieve these goals. Whether you’re a seasoned WordPress developer, a beginner, or someone with a unique perspective, your experiences matter. Here’s how you can contribute:

  1. Apply to Speak: If you’re considering submitting a talk but are unsure if it’s good enough, please watch this ‘Diverse Speaker Training Workshop Part 1’. It debunks common myths like “I’m not an expert”, and “I’m too nervous to talk”. Also check other parts: Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4. You can also discuss your idea with friends or colleagues, refine it, and submit your proposal.
  2. Spread the Word: Encourage potential speakers, especially those from underrepresented groups, to apply. Share the Call for Speakers with your networks to help us reach more people.
  3. Support Your Team: If you have colleagues in Asia, motivate them to apply. Your encouragement could be the push they need to share their expertise.
  4. Offer Financial Support: We’re raising funds to help speakers with travel costs. If your company can contribute, it would be a huge help. Please fill up the interest form

What We’re Doing to Support Diversity?

To make WordCamp Asia 2025 our most inclusive event yet, we’re implementing initiatives to support underrepresented groups:

  • Fair Selection Process: Committed to a transparent and unbiased selection process to ensure every application is considered fairly.
  • Comprehensive Support: We’re committed to providing ample support and resources to speakers after they’ve been selected, ensuring they have everything needed to enhance their presentations.
  • Financial Assistance: We are working on the Underrepresented Speaker Support Initiative. The team will try their best to reach out to companies to apply for this initiative. Please contact us at asia-speakers@wordcamp.org if interested.
