There’s a very helpful app for navigating transportation in Manila: Sakay.ph. It’s a great tool for planning routes, especially if you plan to commute using jeepneys, buses, or trains. It gives step-by-step directions and even includes fare estimates, which is super handy.
Feel free to check it out—I think it could be a lifesaver when commuting or traveling around!
General Tips
Plan your travel considering Metro Manila’s heavy traffic during peak hours (7:00 AM–10:00 AM and 5:00 PM–9:00 PM). Download ride-hailing apps in advance and ensure you have internet access; most accept cash and electronic payments.
Motorcycle taxis are ideal for solo travelers with light luggage. Riders provide helmets and hairnets for safety and hygiene. Be cautious during rain, as roads can become slippery.
As with public transportation in any country, it’s a good idea to keep your belongings secure and have small bills or coins ready for a hassle-free journey.
English is widely spoken, but learning a few basic Filipino phrases can enhance your experience. PICC is well known and should not be a problem when you ask for directions. For emergencies, dial 911 or reach the Tourist Policehotline at 117 or 151-TOUR / 151-8687. If you’re driving, arrive early to secure parking and check for any fees or restrictions.
