After we closed the call for additional WordCamp Asia organisers, the organising team held a meeting to discuss our plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current Situation in Bangkok<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to our local team in Bangkok, domestic lockdown is starting to be eased in the wake of a drop in COVID-19 cases. On the other hand, the state of emergency is still in force and most incoming international flights are banned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

There is a discussion about travel bubbles through bilateral agreements \u2013 but with just Japan and China at the moment. There hasn\u2019t been any announcement for a roadmap to open the borders completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canceling January 2021 Dates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Considering the situation, the organising team came to the conclusion to cancel the plan to hold the first WordCamp Asia in January 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will be picking the new dates when we have a better idea of the international travel situation. We\u2019ll make sure to announce it at least 6 months prior to the event<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Withholding Organising Team Expansion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We received 51 applications to join the organising team from 11 countries. Thank you for your enthusiastic response! We have decided not to select new members at this time, because of the uncertainty of the event dates and the kind of help we will be needing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will definitely inform all applicants when the opportunity arises and check for your interest and availability then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having to delay for a second time has been disheartening to the team. It is however absolutely the right thing to do \u2013 doing the event at the right time for the right purposes for our community is our focus. Our hope is that everyone in the WordPress community stays safe and keeps building connections while we put a hold on the WordCamp Asia plan for now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
